Safety Alert - Pedestrian Robberies

Some of you may have heard that there was another pedestrian robbery overnight near the intersection of Frederica and Greenwood. You probably also have read in recent neighborhood watch and FBAC reports, that we have a crew that is working Virginia-Highland. According to Sgt. Clark APD is also seeing the same type of crime in other beats in Zone 6, and in Zones 2 and 5 to the north and west of us. He tells us that, "The police officers in the zone and off duty patrols are working hard to apprehend these subjects. Investigators are following all available leads to put a stop to this activity."

We all would like to feel safe to walk in the neighborhood at any time of day or night. However, until these suspects are arrested, please use extreme caution when out walking at night. If possible, walk in large groups and stick to well lit areas. If you see something a block ahead of you that makes you uncomfortable, don't hesitate to turn around and go back to a restaurant, bar, or friend's house and call a cab or a friend to give you a ride home. If you do get a ride home, ask the driver to wait until you are safely inside your house before driving off.

We are also asking that every house or building that has outside lights put them on and leave them on all night. This can make streets much brighter and make it more difficult for criminals to surprise you.

Finally, if you see anything suspicious, please call 911 immediately. The police need those tips to catch and deter this behavior in our neighborhood.

Thanks,

VaHi Safety Team
