Burglary - 825 Highland Lane (Storage Unit)
On November 4, 2019, police were dispatched to a larceny call at 825 Highland Ln NE. A female victim advised she had returned home from an international trip and received an email from the Carlton Condominium staff indicating that her storage unit across from her condo had been broken into. The email suggested the condominium staff thought the break-in happened on October 27, 2019 between 2-3:00 AM, but the victim did not haven an explanation for how the staff had narrowed it down to that timeframe. The victim advised that her $800 Tumi luggage was stolen, along with a Home Depot bag full of tools. The cameras at the condominium complex are inactive. Prints were not attempted or obtained because there was not a substantial surface to pull prints off of. The storage unit was not damaged, but no one other than the victim had access, so it was unclear how the suspects had broken in to steal the items.
Aggravated Assault - 810 North Highland Av
On November 23, just after midnight, police were dispatched to Surin of Thailand restaurant. A Hispanic male, approximately 5’ 7”, 170 lbs, with short hair and wearing a white t-shirt, jacket and camouflage pants was seen pointing a gun at the restaurant manager while tapping the window and mouthing something unknown. The manager said the suspect had previously been at the Ocean Wave restaurant and tried to drink there, but when he was asked for ID, the victim got upset and came over to Surin, where he started arguing with the staff there. The manager stated that the suspect left and came back with a gun and pointed it toward him and some other people, tapping on the window and mouthing something from outside the restaurant. The restaurant only has camera footage inside, and no other exterior cameras were located in the area. Police advised the manager not to let the suspect back into the restaurant and to avoid further confrontation by calling police immediately if he was seen again.
The usual reminder as the Holidays approach is always to mind your surroundings. Do not leave packages or items of valuable in your vehicle. Stay on alert when walking to and from your vehicle at shopping malls and other retail locations. Try to get your packages as quickly as possible from your homes that are dropped off by USPS, FED-EX and UPS. STAY ALERT!
If you see someone or something suspicious, please report it to the police. When driving or out walking keep an eye out in the neighborhood, what you see and report just might prevent a crime.
Reminder: All members call 911 first if you see a crime in progress or a suspicious person or activity, and then call the FBAC Phone.
